Checkoff Communications & Promotions
The Eastern Region Soybean Board's communications program supports its three main missions of research, marketing and education.

------------------------------------------------
Communicating with our Farmers
Our most important audience is our farm audience. To reach out to new farm audiences, we have worked with the West Virginia Farm Bureau, Extension, and others. One of our more popular programs has been to provide "welcome bags" at state Farm Bureau conventions.
The United Soybean Board's communications program sends out Beyond the Bean, a magazine about the soybean checkoff program and its accomplishments. You can access the latest issue by clicking that link. USB's website also provides a wealth of information about checkoff activities on the national and international scene.
Farmers can access webcasts on production techniques through USB's site. Presented through a partnership between the soybean checkoff and Plant Management Network, “Focus on Soybean” Webcasts provide U.S. soybean farmers/farm managers with the latest news in soybean production practices and soybean research updates. Webcast(s) are free to access for one month. New Webcasts will be available the last Monday of each month.

Animal Agriculture
Animal Agriculture consumes about 98 percent of domestic soybean meal. Because it is such an important market, the Eastern Region Soybean Board has been working on an awareness program designed to get the public to recognize the contributions our livestock farmers make to the economy, environment and quality of life in our communities.
Working with other soybean boards in the Mid-Atlantic region, the board maintains and promotes www.ThankAFarmer.info, which combines farm facts with fun. Checkoff communications promote the site, where people can find more information about what farmers are doing to protect the land, air and water, care for their animals, and contribute to their communities.

Biodiesel
The directors of the Eastern Region Soybean Board stay abreast of the latest news from the National Biodiesel Board (clicking this link exits this soybean checkoff site). The board has been able to participate in funding opportunities for biodiesel research, including some important early work that established the correct BioHeat flame-sensor settings for oil heat, which represents a 7 billion gallon market for biodiesel, primarily in the Northeast.
