The Eastern Region Soybean Board is funded by the national soybean checkoff, which assesses one-half of one percent of the net market value of soybeans at the first point of sale. This assessment is used to support three primary mission areas: Research, Marketing and Education. Of the total checkoff assessments in each state, half is kept for local programs and the other half is sent to the United Soybean Board for national and international programs.
Soybean farmers from Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts and West Virginia contribute to the Eastern Region Soybean Board. Checkoff funds collected in each state remain "earmarked" for the benefit of that state within the Northeast budget. As of the 2010 harvest, New York soybean growers are now represented by their own board, operated by the New York Corn Growers Association (clicking this link will exit this site).
